The Communist Party of the Russian Federation, which often campaigns in Muslim regions of Russia under the slogans of friendship among nations and internationalism, has found itself at the center of Islamophobic scandals. A few years ago, the leadership of the Moscow branch of this party used the public shock caused by the murder of a small child by the deranged Gulchekhra Bobokulova to score points with blatant Islamophobia, using a woman wearing a headscarf and holding a severed head as an image of the enemy and calling for the «ban of Wahhabism». While it can be argued that «Wahhabism» is not Islam, the recent statements by Alexandra Andreeva, a deputy of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) in the Moscow Lefortovo District Municipal Council, are undeniably directed against Islam as a religion and Muslims as its adherents.
So, without further ado, the CPRF deputy burst into a discussion with the well-known journalist Sergei Parkhomenko about the events that took place in Yugoslavia 20 years ago, and decided to shame him by accusing him of being «pro-Muslim and anti-Serbian». And then it escalated. As it is obvious, this lady or comrade deputy believes that Muslims should not be supported because they are «savages», and Islam, in turn, is a «world view that emerged among wild nomadic tribes, still existing in (and remaining in) the primitive-communal stage of development, in its most aggressive stage of development». Nor is their attitude toward other nations, even «fraternal» ones, any better. It seems that for them «Ukraine is a historical anecdote» and «the only thing funnier is the country of Belarus». Should we be surprised about such an attitude towards Muslims?
To dispel any doubts — yes, this is a deputy of the Lefortovo city council. And yes, her candidacy was put forward by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. In this connection, questions arise for the voters of this party among Muslims, as well as for its members, who assure Muslims of their good intentions and who, as we know, regularly read our website. Do you agree with the assessment of Islam and Muslims given by this representative of your party? And if not, why don’t you demand that the party leadership evaluate these statements and demand that this deputy officially apologize to millions of Russian voters who belong to the second largest religion in the country?
Let’s imagine that a deputy from the CPRF or any other party said exactly the same thing about Judaism and Jews. What kind of public outcry would that cause? And could the party leadership that nominated that deputy simply remain silent in that situation? So why can’t Muslims, or those who consider themselves friends of Muslims, take this issue directly to the party leadership, which has traditionally received a significant number of votes in regions with a significant Muslim population and plans to continue to do so? Or does the CPRF no longer need the votes of Muslim voters?
