Last weekend, the attention of many people in Crimea, Ukraine, Russia and the entire Russian-speaking community was drawn to the case of a young Crimean Tatar boy named Musa Suleymanov. The boy disappeared on Friday evening in the village of Mamak (Strohanovka), and thousands of people took part in the search, both those who came to the place in person and those who tried to help from afar. It is noteworthy that people of different nationalities, religions and political views were involved in the case.
Unfortunately, the boy was found dead yesterday — his body was found in a septic tank near the house. The funeral took place today. We all belong to our Lord and to Him is our return, and we pray to Almighty Allah to make this boy a resident of Paradise and to grant patience and comfort to his loved ones.
However, this seemingly ordinary accident, one among many of its kind, raised serious and justified questions about the reasons behind it. The fact is that the father of the deceased boy, Ruslan Suleymanov, is a political prisoner and a Crimean Tatar activist who is subjected to considerable pressure while in custody. Just on Thursday, he was returned from a psychiatric hospital to pre-trial detention for a forced examination, and on Friday, his son disappeared and turned out to be dead.
Now the Kremlin propaganda accuses those who claim that the boy might have been killed of making political speculations about a human tragedy. But let’s ask ourselves — don’t political murders and reprisals against dissenters happen too often in Putin’s Russia for such suspicions not to arise?
But even if we consider the household version, based on the mother’s words that she did not keep an eye on her son because in the absence of her husband she had to work and take care of a large family, who is responsible for this? It is worth recalling that the Hizb ut-Tahrir party, with which Suleymanov was arrested for alleged involvement, operated legally in Ukrainian Crimea until the establishment of Russian-Putinist rule, just as it operates legally in most Western countries. So why was the boy’s father taken away, and why was his mother’s provider and support system taken away, and are those who did this not responsible for the tragedy that occurred?
