We have already written several times about videos of hundreds of cases of torture and rape in Russian pre-trial detention centers and colonies under the orders of Russian security forces (https://golosislama.com/news.php?id=40215). It was clear that this issue, by definition, affects Muslims, of whom there are many in Russian prisons, both in criminal cases and among prisoners of conscience.
However, Vladimir Ossechkin, the head of the Gulagu.Net project, decided to draw public attention specifically to such cases with Muslims, as he was outraged by the recent PR campaign of the Investigative Committee of Russia on the topic of protecting the religious feelings of believers. «Capos brutally beat and torture Muslims, rape them in the torture chambers of Irkutsk and Saratov, tear up the Koran, employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service take away their prayer rugs, they are beaten and tied up, capos pour boiling pig’s broth into their mouths, for some reason put crosses on their chests — and according to the available facts there are no criminal cases for insulting the religious feelings of believers… Double standards and meanness,» he wrote.
Ossechkin then posted videos of several interviews with Chechens who detailed how they were tortured for years to make them take responsibility for crimes they did not commit and then extort money from their relatives. In the first of these videos, starting at the 14:13 minute mark, Ossechkin asks his interviewee about the abuse based on religious principles, and the interviewee tells him about it in detail.
And this is only a small part of such cases, as Ossechkin has already announced that several Muslims from different colonies in different regions of Russia are giving him relevant testimonies. The question arises: do all those activists who like to present themselves as «spiritual leaders of Russian Muslims» and represent them before the state and society not want to take control of the investigation of such cases? Do they not want to raise the issue of ending the humiliation of their fellow believers in Russian prisons, including on religious grounds?
After all, now it is not necessary to organize rallies or something similar, to present oneself as an opposition, etc. It is enough to get in touch with this human rights activist and offer him your help in the public control of cases concerning Muslims. Moreover, he practically offers it himself and is ready to cooperate with everyone, whether they are Muslims, Christians, Hare Krishnas, etc. After all, all these centralized «Muslim Spiritual Administration Bodies» have various departments, including those for communication with the public and legal matters. So why are they earning their bread if they cannot at least participate in the work that courageous human rights activists have already done for them?
