The Islamic World Celebrates Eid al-Fitr!

The Islamic world celebrates the blessed Ramadan of the year 1440 Hijri and welcomes the festive day of Eid al-Fitr. The holiday was officially announced by the Gulf States, Turkey, and Muslim communities in Europe and America after preliminary astronomical calculations and the sighting of the moon in Saudi Arabia.

However, it should be noted that a significant portion of the Islamic world considered June 4, 2019 in the Gregorian calendar to be the 30th day of Ramadan, and thus determined June 5 to be the first day of Shawwal and the day of celebration. The basis for this decision was in some cases the position that the new moon should be sighted in each specific location where it was not previously sighted, while in other cases it was due to distrust in the data provided by the Saudi Moon Observation Committee.

Among the countries in this group that will end their fast tonight are Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan in the post-Soviet space. We congratulate those who are celebrating this festive day today and those who will celebrate it tomorrow! May Allah accept us and you and bless the entire Islamic Ummah!
