The arrest of the Russian hawk Girkin-Strelkov, who called for the total mobilization of Russia for a total war against Ukraine and accused the Kremlin of being indecisive and thus losing the war, became a loud but expected news at the end of last week.
Yesterday, another piece of news shook the public: it turns out that Girkin-Strelkov will be represented in court by lawyer Gadzhi Aliyevich Aliyev.
This led to many jokes about how a «Russian nationalist» Strelkov is being defended by a Caucasian. While it is amusing that in Russia, where, according to Russian nationalists, Russians supposedly make up 80% of the population, no lawyer with a Russian surname was available to defend a Russian figure, it is important to set the record straight.
The problem with Girkin-Strelkov is not that he is a «Russian nationalist». In theory, Russian nationalists can be of various kinds — extreme and moderate, imperial and anti-imperial, religious and secular, etc. But truth be told, throughout the existence of post-Soviet Russia, despite some reasonable people identifying themselves as Russian nationalists, there hasn’t been a Russian nationalism that other nations, both inside and outside of Russia, could deal with.
For example, there is someone like Demushkin, who is against the war in Ukraine and (in his words) defended Chechens who didn’t want to eat pork, unlike Girkin-Strelkov. They are not the same «Russian nationalists».
When we talk about Girkin-Strelkov, he is not only a war criminal who shot down a civilian Boeing, unleashed a war in eastern Ukraine, and called for turning it into a total genocide of the Ukrainian people. He also participated in the Chechen war, during which he reportedly tortured to death, as an FSB officer, the wife of the third president of Ichkeria, Abdul-Halim Sadulayev, for not revealing the whereabouts of her husband. This incident was only one of his many victims.
In addition, Girkin-Strelkov has recently been actively involved in the «Orthodox Tatar» movement, which calls for the elimination of all national republics and the «return of Muslims to Christ.
So he is not just a «Russian nationalist» but an international terrorist, an apologist for genocide, an executioner, a chauvinist, a militant crusader — in short, an enemy of Allah and simply scum.
And this scum is defended by the lawyer Gadzhi Aliyevich Aliyev.
What’s wrong with you, son of Ali?! Even if you are not enthusiastic about the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria and those who fought under its banner against the occupiers, don’t you feel sick defending a filthy swine who tortured and killed a mountain woman, a Muslim?
Or do you want these Strelkovs to eliminate even nominal republics like Dagestan, Chechnya, Tatarstan, etc. and start imposing Orthodoxy on them, as they demand?
Or maybe you just don’t care about anything but money and fame?
And this is the really big problem. It’s not just that a Caucasian defends a «Russian nationalist», because there are some Caucasians and Tatars and representatives of other Muslim nations who support Putin, even if he feeds them lies about how he loves Islam and Muslims. But they also support those who don’t hide their hatred for them, like Zhirinovsky or Girkin-Strelkov.
Otherwise, where did the LDP branches in the Caucasian republics, headed by people with Muslim surnames, come from? Probably from the same place as the lawyer Gadzhi Aliyevich Aliyev, who defended a murderer and executioner of Caucasians and Muslims and a supporter of their Christianization, Girkin-Strelkov. And this must be addressed.
