The news about the alleged support of Ukrainian President Zelensky for the recognition of «same-sex marriages» in his country has been used by Kremlin propaganda for several days to troll Ukrainians and their supporters among religious people. Of course, «Kremlin Muslims» didn’t leave it alone and decided to use it to provoke Muslims who support Ukraine, saying, «Look, this is what you support.
Two important points should be noted. First, the news that Zelensky supported the recognition of «same-sex marriages» is not true. See below for what actually happened. Second, in a non-Muslim country where they themselves are a minority, Muslims will not value the rights of other groups first and foremost, but their own rights. Therefore, even if the choice is between a country with no religious freedom for Muslims and no «same-sex marriages» and a country with both, rational Muslims will prefer the latter. Nevertheless, let’s not hide the fact that if President Zelensky, especially during such a war, had supported the recognition of «same-sex marriages» in Ukraine, it would have been really unpleasant for Muslims and other religious patriots of Ukraine. Fortunately, he did not, demonstrating a cunning in the positive sense of the word that angered LGBT extremists.
So what did Zelensky write in his response to the petition on the recognition of «same-sex marriages» in Ukraine, and what did the Kremlin propaganda emphasize and hide? In his reply, Zelensky wrote that «in the modern world, the level of democracy in society is measured, among other things, by the state policy aimed at ensuring equal rights for all citizens» and that «every citizen is an integral part of civil society and enjoys all the rights and freedoms protected by the Constitution of Ukraine. He thanked all those who had addressed him with this petition. It was this part of his response, which seemed to imply support for the recognition of «same-sex marriages,» that the pro-Kremlin propaganda highlighted, ignoring what he wrote after that. But then he wrote that according to the Constitution of Ukraine, marriage is based on the free consent of a woman and a man (Article 51) and that in conditions of war or a state of emergency the Constitution cannot be changed (Article 157 of the Constitution). However, he instructed the Prime Minister of Ukraine to explore other ways of recognizing the rights of the relevant category of citizens without violating the Ukrainian Constitution.
All Western and opposition Russian-speaking media that reported this news understood exactly what he meant — the possibility of registering so-called partnerships that would not be considered marriages. LGBT extremists also understood, and threw a tantrum as a result. In particular, the Ukrainian «rainbow» organization INSIGHT stated that Zelensky had disappointed the hopes of «thousands of LGBTIQ families and LGBTIQ individuals in Ukraine» and that his response did not include a resolution in which the president emphasized the urgent need to work out a solution or «immediately present alternatives» on how to change the provisions of the Ukrainian Constitution.
What can be said about this? As is known, Ukraine is striving to join the European Union, which has three approaches to this issue. On one pole, mainly in the countries of Northern and partly Western Europe, there are states that recognize «same-sex marriages» and often enforce the perception of them as a norm. At the other pole, there are countries such as Poland and Hungary, where they are not recognized and their authorities openly oppose the LGBT ideology. Finally, there are countries in between, where marriage is recognized as a union between a man and a woman, and the state supports only such families, but people with other inclinations have the opportunity to register so-called partnerships. It should be noted that LGBT extremists are not satisfied with this option, since it allows them to live in these partnerships as they wish, but they are not recognized as families and do not have the rights that families have, such as adoption. From a European perspective, this is a rather conservative approach, which is why LGBT extremists in Ukraine are disappointed. As for Muslims, Islam’s position on this issue is well known, and for us the main thing is to have the opportunity to adhere to our worldview criteria.
At the same time, of course, there is a specificity of place and time in setting the right emphasis, and therefore Muslims living in modern non-Muslim countries need to understand these nuances that will allow them on the one hand to maintain their commitment to their system of values, and on the other hand to be perceived by society as reasonable people. Of course, this is true for a society of freedom, not a new totalitarianism that LGBT extremists seek. For now, it can be said that the Ukrainian authorities, balancing the expectations of external allies and the sentiments of their society, manage to maintain this balance. The goal of Muslims and other religious communities in Ukraine is to defend the freedom of their country and to strengthen their position in it in the future. And if someone thinks that Russia is the panacea for the negative tendencies of the West, let us remind him that one of the influential voices of Kremlin propaganda is the open sodomite Anton Krasovsky, and another such person, Dmitry Kiselyov, once advocated the recognition of same-sex «partnerships» in Russia. It should be understood that the issue of «LGBT» is used by the Kremlin exclusively within the framework of the Cold War with the West, the goal of which is to force the latter to accept conditions acceptable to the former. And if that were to happen, it would instead become a demonstration of how «civilized» and «European» Russia is, as it already has been. So there is no need to fall for it.
