«Idiots, f*ck!» — This well-known phrase of Sergey Lavrov’s has long served as a perfect characterization of his activities and himself as Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, as well as the entire agency he heads (and the Russian government in general).
A vivid illustration of this was the scandal surrounding his recent remarks about «Jewish Hitler,» in which Jews allegedly destroyed themselves during World War II.
Let us remind you that Lavrov is not a historian or a blogger, but the foreign minister of a country that is in an open war with one country and a cold war with a significant part of the world.
In other words, in a complex international situation where every ally is essential and an enemy, on the contrary, could be unnecessary.
And in such a situation, he manages to push Israel, which has consistently refused to join the sanctions against Russia and supply Ukraine with the weapons it needs, to support the latter with his comments.
Moreover, when the Israeli authorities predictably protested against his remarks about Hitler’s Jewish roots, misinterpreting them as Jews destroying themselves, the Russian Foreign Ministry decided to add fuel to the fire, accusing Israel of supporting neo-Nazism in Ukraine.
Let me repeat — we are not talking about the evaluation of historical events, but about the diplomacy of a country and the tasks it is supposed to solve.
We are also talking about the level of expertise that seems to be completely lacking in the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Otherwise, they would know that Israel currently has a coalition government with many internal contradictions.
While the Israeli Foreign Ministry is headed by the liberal Lapid, who is sympathetic to Ukraine, the Prime Minister of Israel is the right-wing Zionist Bennett, who is pro-Russian.
And while the latter was doing his best to prevent Israel from joining the Western sanctions against Russia, Lavrov and his subordinates undermined their efforts with their foolish remarks, pushing Israel, friendly to Putin’s Russia, into the ranks of its enemies.
How can we call them after that? In the words of Lavrov himself.
The same can be said about the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, who made a fool of himself in a conversation with the Pope.
Here is how the latter described him: «I spoke with Kirill for 40 minutes on Zoom. For the first 20 minutes he read from a sheet of paper he held in his hand, listing all the reasons that explain the ‘war. I listened to him and then replied, ‘I don’t understand any of this. Brother, we are not government officials; we should not speak in the language of politics but in the language of Jesus. We are shepherds of the same holy flock of God. Therefore, we should seek a way to peace; we should stop the hostilities. The Patriarch cannot stoop to being Putin’s altar boy.»
«Putin’s altar boy» — coming from the mouth of the head of one of the largest and most influential global denominations, this is a real condemnation for someone who once tried to be on par with it.
But just as being a global power requires the right personnel and intellect, so too does being a global church.
In Putin’s Russia we observe the total stupidity of its ruling class, both political and «spiritual.
On a global scale, the level of these people is below the lowest standard, which is pointed out to them with undisguised contempt.
Therefore, sooner or later, they will be driven there.
