Can parts of the republics of KCR and KBR be detached under the pretext of investments?

Not only «extremist» and «foreign» national organizations, but also those loyal to the Russian authorities are forced to protest when they see what the «Russian world» is doing to their people, while their sons are dying for it in Ukraine. This was the case last week when a teacher in one of the schools in Kazan demanded that all children raise their fists and shout «I am Russian» and suggested that those who refused should leave the country. And although some Tatarstani deputies and representatives of official organizations were forced to speak out in protest, now even the official organization Congress of the Karachay People is forced to express a very cautious protest against the actions of the authorities. Obviously, there is no other way, since about a third of the territory of Karachay-Cherkessia is at stake, including resort gems like Arkhyz.

The thing is, it was recently revealed that the company «Gornye Vershiny», owned by the family of the former governor of Krasnodar region and former Russian Minister of Agriculture Alexander Tkachev (photo), bought this resort for 24.2 billion rubles. Where the family of the former regional and federal official got such money is a rhetorical question, so we won’t ask it — it has obviously served them well.

The main question is another. Such «hard-earned money» is not just invested in resorts. For it to pay off and for the investment project to work, serious work has to be done, including the involvement of a significant workforce, after which a stream of tourists has to come there.

It may seem that there’s nothing wrong with that. After all, this way money will flow into the republic, jobs will be created, additional taxes will be paid, and so on. And in answering this question, we won’t even mention the consequences for the Muslim community — after all, even much more economically developed Muslim countries like Turkey, Tunisia, Egypt, etc. bear these costs because of their interest in investment.

So that’s not the point. The point is that in this case there is a serious threat of secession from Karachay-Cherkessia in the future, which has caused even systemic Karachay public figures to protest. And there are two reasons for this threat.

First of all, Arkhyz is located in the part of the territory of Karachay-Cherkessia where the proportion of Russian-speaking population is increasing and which borders on Krasnodar region.

Second — the real owner of the company that will take over «Arkhyz» is the Kuban chauvinist Tkachev, who is «famous» for his Caucasus and Islamophobia. And the plenipotentiary representative of the president in the Southern Federal District is currently another Cossack — Yuri Chaika, who apparently did not provide protection here.

Putting the first and the second together, it is obvious why the Karachay community is rightly worried about the secession of a significant part of its territory from the republic in favor of the Krasnodar region (which is already a colonizing entity in the Caucasus). And, by the way, the threat may arise for other territories, not only for Karachay-Cherkessia, but also for Kabardino-Balkaria (KBR), as the «investors» plan to sell the resorts of Dombay in Karachay-Cherkessia and Elbrus in Kabardino-Balkaria.

In other words, the two displaced peoples, the Karachays and the Balkars, are about to be left without their mountains and the income from them, because the companies that will own the resorts will obviously be registered outside these regions, and the local population will begin to be expelled from «private territory».

But even if we assume that it is necessary to attract foreign investors, the question arises why in this case an investor was chosen who is known for his anti-Caucasian and anti-Islamic views, and why his selection was made without public discussion in the republic?

For example, AFC «System» and the «Sinar» group, whose owners are not connected with the Krasnodar Territory and are not known for their chauvinistic views, were considered as investors, and among their managers there are representatives of the indigenous peoples of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic and Kabardino-Balkaria.

But it is Tkachev’s company that is chosen. And here two things have to be realized. The Kremlin, with all its actions, is making it clear that it is abandoning the concept of the Russian Federation as a multinational federation and is turning it into a unitary country consisting of provinces or fortified districts, all of whose inhabitants are «Russians» (see the case of the Kazan school).

At the same time, Tkachev, as a Kuban Cossack, is perhaps not so stupid and understands that all this can end in the collapse of Russia. And in this case, he is already expanding his mini-empire in the form of Kuban, which he intends to lead. From the point of view of his plans and interests, Tkachev is acting very wisely in this case.

But what about the representatives of the Karachay-Balkar people? Do they understand that timid protests will not change the situation? Or will they continue to send their men to war in Ukraine while the Kremlin prepares to colonize their lands, as it did in 1944?
