A historic event took place in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The Ukrainian MP Alexey Goncharenko gave a short but substantive speech in which he shed light on the history of enslavement and genocide of the Caucasian peoples by the Russian Empire, their struggle for freedom, and their current situation. His speech in English with Russian subtitles can be viewed at this link: https://youtu.be/Iu8KspMcz9k
Goncharenko not only highlighted the issue of the Caucasus, but also described the nature of the Russian Empire as a conveyor belt that uses conquered peoples to conquer new ones. Thus, today the conquered peoples of the Caucasus are being used to conquer Ukraine. And if Ukraine were conquered, Ukrainians would be used to conquer new peoples, such as the Baltic, Eastern Europe, and so on.
Therefore, Goncharenko called on Europe to stop this conveyor belt, to remove the forcibly placed peoples from it and to allow them to live a normal life.
In this regard, it should be noted that Goncharenko spoke not only on his own behalf, but also on behalf of the interfactional parliamentary group «Free Caucasus», which was recently reestablished in the Ukrainian parliament.
