MAKHACHKALA: Everyone to a rally in support of Abdulmumin Gadzhiev!

The case of Abdulmumin Gadzhiev, who has recently been formally charged with terrorist activities and faces the possibility of a long prison sentence, should be one of the central concerns of the remaining Muslim community not only in Dagestan but throughout Russia.

We would like to remind you that the massiveness and persistence of street protests played a significant role in the release of Moscow journalist Ivan Golunov. And although we are not naive enough to believe that the attitude towards a journalist from Dagestan, especially one who is strongly Islamic, will be the same, there is no doubt that his prospects depend largely on the support he receives from society.

In this connection, the editorial staff of «Voice of Islam» calls upon Muslims and decent people, regardless of their views, who live in Makhachkala or have the opportunity to come, to participate in a rally in support of Abdulmumin Gadzhiev, which the organizers have managed to officially coordinate.

We would like to emphasize once again that this is a rally that has been approved by the authorities, which was achieved after the refusal of the Ministry of Justice was challenged in court. The rally is scheduled for July 28 from 10:00 to 11:30 local time and is expected to take place on Akhmat-Haji Kadyrov Street (formerly Kotrov Street).

The organizers of the event recommend the following:

  • Arrive BEFORE the start of the event, i.e. not at 10:00, but at 9:30
  • Wear a T-shirt with «I/We Support Abdulmumin Gadzhiev» (if you have one). If you don’t want to wear it, just bring it with you
  • Bring a bottle of water (in case it gets hot)
  • Come and invite acquaintances
  • Be alert and attentive to avoid provocations
  • Don’t forget your passport or other identification.

Please follow the relevant groups and channels on social media, as well as the website of the newspaper «Chernovik» (https://chernovik.net) for possible updates on the rally.
