Prominent American Senator Marco Rubio, representing the Republican Party, and his colleague Christopher Coons, representing the Democratic Party in the Senate, have launched an international investigation into the murder of Orkhan Dzhemal, Kirill Radchenko, and Alexander Rastorguev, which took place in the Central African Republic on July 30, 2018. Orkhan Dzhemal’s widow, Irina Gordienko, wrote about this in the Novaya Gazeta newspaper this week.
It is reported that the senators have sent a request to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres. They are asking him to instruct the UN mission in the Central African Republic to conduct and supervise an appropriate investigation. This could be a breakthrough in the official investigation, because the independent journalistic investigations conducted so far, which have essentially identified the instigators and organizers of this political assassination, have been unofficial in nature, which means that their conclusions are nothing more than the private opinions of their authors. The Russian saboteurs of the investigation, whose puppets are the authorities of the Central African Republic, are taking advantage of this. They will only hinder the identification of the murderers, not help it.
The case will take a completely different turn if the official international organization, the UN mission in the country, conducts an investigation with appropriate conclusions. If they take over the case, the obstacles to such an investigation by the authorities of the Central African Republic and their Russian patrons will be a real scandal.
Of course, there is no guarantee that an investigation at this level will not be corrupted, especially considering the usual connections between UN mission members and local authorities. However, since someone like Marco Rubio has taken up the case, there is hope that the instigators and organizers of the murder will not escape justice and that their names will be known to the whole world before the regime whose officials they are falls.
