Dagestan: Should we expect a struggle for human dignity?

Last weekend, the Telegram channel «Morning of Dagestan», which organized several successful protest actions of the Muslim organization «Takbir», called on the residents of Dagestan to start a protest campaign to fight for their basic human living conditions.

What is the problem? Regular water and electricity cuts (including extremely dirty water) and garbage dumps in Dagestani towns and villages are considered normal by the majority of Dagestani residents. And not only by them, but now we are talking about it, because the Dagestani channel raised the issue.

And it was raised in such a way that all this is NOT normal. Because people who live in occupied Palestine or even in captivity in Syria started writing in chat groups that they do not have such problems. Again, even in places like Palestine or Syria that are devastated by occupation or war, people write that they have electricity and light and they clean up the garbage. So why don’t they have these things in Dagestan or in regions that have come under Russian rule, like Abkhazia? After all, Russian propagandists are always shouting about how Russia is a benefactor of Dagestan and other annexed territories.

But why are the people in these places living worse than in occupied Palestine or bombed Syria? And by the way, there are no such regular blackouts in Moscow or St. Petersburg, but there are in Dagestan, which has its own sea and rivers that could be used to provide both water and electricity.

In response to the call of the telegram channel «Morning of Dagestan», the residents of the Karaman 2 district of Kumtorkalin blocked the federal highway from Makhachkala to Astrakhan, which brought immediate results — representatives of the city authorities came to negotiate with them and promised to solve their problems, after which the highway was unblocked.

Attempts to organize citizens’ rallies in other places have so far been unsuccessful, as the efforts of a few activists have not been supported by local residents. Nevertheless, the protest action is not over, and currently its initiators have called on the residents of Khasavyurt to bring their uncollected garbage to the city center.

We fully support these efforts in the struggle for not only civil, but also basic human rights. You can follow it on the Telegram channel «Morning of Dagestan» (https://t.me/utro_dagestan).
